Instead of, Halloween ends shows a Laurie reminiscent of the seventeen-year-old version from 1978. It was a heartwarming approach to a character who was never able to live a full life due to trauma. Halloween H20 has been widely criticized for its missing score, minimal kills, and Michael’s underwhelming mask, but it nevertheless marks Curtis’s monumental return to the franchise after seventeen years. A direct sequel to Halloween II, this film shows the consequences of a twenty-year trauma for Laurie Strode. A functioning addict, suffering from PTSD, and possessive of her son, John, Laurie is a shell of the jovial teen introduced in the original Halloween. In a plot twist greater than Halloween II revealing her sibling, Laurie decides to end her nightmare once and for all and becomes the predator hunting Michael until his very last breath (until Halloween Resurrection). Jamie Lee Curtis pours her heart into this retelling of Laurie Strode, reiterating that she’s not just the Scream Queen, but one of cinema’s greatest talents.

In one of the most unsavory directions Halloween history, Laurie Strode is killed during The Resurrection of Halloween open for fifteen minutes; Sixteen years later, and after extensive pre-production delegations, Jamie Lee Curtis is back on set to play Laurie Strode for the fifth time. But this time, the movie ignores every sequel since the first Halloween deposit. This Laurie Strode, while sharing the same trauma as her H20 incarnation, she resorts to a survival mindset to deal with her PTSD, becoming a dysfunctional human being on virtually every level as a result. Alienating her daughter, going through two failed marriages and rejecting any semblance of a normal life – this image shows the deepest depths to which a survivor will resort… in order to survive. This is by far Jamie Lee Curtis’ most tear-jerking and disturbing performance.

Halloween ranks number one…because it is Halloween. But there’s more to Jamie Lee Curtis’ top performance than the movie’s icon status. Her first screen appearance, Jamie Lee Curtis, not only delivers a final girl, but a universally recognizable character through Laurie Strode. Laurie explores the insecurities every teen has at some point in their formative years; she is reserved, but wonderful in her own way; she is intelligent, but then considers it a mistake when weighing her dating prospects; she is curious about the unknown, but clings to her scientific knowledge. Laurie Strode reflects an American era of youth rebellion and society’s response to it.
