Shelley Duvall finally returns to horror after a long hiatus from acting. With today’s announcement of Deadline That The shining actress to appear in writer-director Scott Goldberg’s indie horror thriller The forest hillsDuvall will star in her first film in 20 years.


From producer Scott Hansen, Dreznick Goldberg Productions and Digital Thunderdome Studios, with Goldberg co-producing, The forest hills movie stars Duvall, Edward Furlong as Billy (perhaps a werewolf), Chiko Mendez as Rico (billed as a man who convinces Billy that he is a werewolf), and Dee Wallace. According to DeadlineDuvall will “play the mother of the mentally and emotionally disturbed Rico (Mendez), who serves as his inner voice.” The plot centers on a deranged man who is haunted by nightmarish visions after suffering head trauma while camping in the Catskill Mountains.

“It’s fun to work on something that has a lot of love in it. I love it. It’s therapeutic. I’ve enjoyed working with Scott Goldberg,” Furlong said in a statement earlier, per Damn disgusting.

Duvall rose to fame in the 1980s for her leading roles, including Olive Oly in Robert Altman’s live-action version of popeye in 1980 and Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of The shining in 1980 (a role for which she was unfairly nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Actress).
