The new fantasy adventure movie Dungeons & Dragons: honor among thieves has received a lot of love with its world premiere screening. Based on the popular role-playing game, the Dungeons and Dragons film screened for critics and festival goers at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Subsequent reviews from Rotten Tomatoes-approved critics have led to unanimous praise and a 100% rating for the film, a stark contrast to the previous live-action D&D movie released in 2000.
“Dungeons & Dragons: honor among thieves has arrived on SXSW’s Opening Night, and it’s the kind of epic fun fans have been waiting for,” writes Kristy Puchko of Mashable.
“It captures the joy of failure, running away and coming up with a great solution that somehow just works, which is the real experience of every good D&D campaign,” the Austin chroniclesays Richard Whittaker in his review.
Prior to the premiere, the film’s directors said the film was not “just for nerds”, emphasizing that they Honor among thieves to address everyone. So are the critics of the SXSW showing, as it is noted that both fans and those unfamiliar with the RPG will be entertained by the film.
“An adaptation that will appeal to the nostalgic side of existing fans and entertain those whose eyes glaze over at the mention of Dungeon Masters, Bards or Druids,” said Lovia Gyarkye of THR says, calls the film an “accessible” adaptation.

That was also revealed shortly after the premiere Dungeons & Dragons: honor among thieves will hold pre-screening for Amazon Prime subscribers. the one-day special screening will take place March 19 at 2 p.m. local time in participating theaters across the country. The film will be released in theaters to the general public on March 31, 2023. Tickets for the special screening are available at Amazon.nl.
