In a behind-the-scenes interview for “That 90s Show” titled “Interview from the Hair Chair with Debra Jo and Kurtwood”, Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith spoke about reprising their roles as Kitty and Red. I talked about working with a new artist. and the next stage in their characters’ lives.
“It’s been a gift,” says an emotional Look about being back on set for the newly rebooted series. The show is a spinoff/sequel to the popular sitcom “That ’70s Show”. It’s been 16 years since the final episode of “That ’70s Show” aired, and the original cast, including Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon and Wilmer Valderrama, are set to return as special guests .
“Look at all the kids coming back. It was almost as if no time had passed. We have a mini reunion every week. It’s been amazing,” Roop said in the clip, adding that she was excited about the newcomers.
“I loved the kids immediately — very impressed. Very impressed,” Roop says. New cast members include Kelly Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide, Maxwell Donovan, Rain Doi, Sam Morelos and Mace Colon.
There’s a new cast and new story, plus new challenges for the beloved grandparents – especially Red. Smith states that in this next era, Red struggles with wanting to retire while loving her life with a new generation of fun and hilarious teenagers.
“He’s stuck at this place where he thinks he wants to retire,” Smith says of Redd, sitting in his armchair. “But at the same time he really doesn’t because he really likes the life these kids have brought back to his home. But, he won’t listen because he’s stubborn in his ways.
The new series will follow Leia Forman (Haverda) who convinces her parents to let her stay with her grandparents, Red and Kitty, during the summer in hopes of finding a new and exciting adventure. When Leia meets the dynamic and rebellious Gwen she “finds” what she’s looking for next door. With the help of Gwen’s friends, including her loving brother Nate, his smart, laser-focused girlfriend Nikki, the sarcastic and Joining the practical Ozzie, and the charming Jay, Leia discovers that adventure can be out there just as it did for her parents all those years ago,” according to the show’s description.
“That ’90s Show” will premiere on Netflix on January 19, 2023.
