In Rick and Morty, it can be hard to point out a character who isn’t at least a little self-centered. This makes sense, as many of the individuals mentioned are aware of the infinite nature of the universe. When faced with the reality of one’s own insignificance, the only logical course of action is to seek immediate gratification. Why choose to focus on someone else when there are so many epic intergalactic adventures out there? It’s often much easier to just abandon a dimension altogether rather than trying to save those who are in it.
The most recent episode of Rick and Morty season six, “Bethic Twinstinctsees a certain member of the Smith family reach a peak of self-centeredness not yet seen in the series. In the process, she alienates her entire family and scars her children. The episode may have ended on a positive note — for a few of the characters anyway – but the audience wondered if anyone was really growing. Full of raunchy humor and intriguing introspection, this most recent Rick and Morty episode featured everything fans of the show have come to appreciate.
Rick and Morty has another Thanksgiving episode
Family has always been an important part of Rick and Morty. The genesis of the duo’s intergalactic romp comes about when Rick, after years of searching for the interdimensional variant of himself who killed his original wife and daughter, finds a universe where Beth is still alive and his starship crashes back into place. in her and her family.
Thanksgiving is arguably the most family-oriented holiday, and Rick and Morty has seen the family sit for an above-average number of turkey dinners over the years. At the beginning of the episode, it is revealed that Rick has earned another presidential pardon by turning himself into a turkey. This annual tradition was introduced in the season five episode “Rick and Morty’s Thanksploitation Special.”
Beth finds herself… and gets to know herself very well 
It’s not just the Smith family sitting down to drink wine and feast on a tasty filling. They are joined by Space Beth. In the episode “The ABCs of Beth”, Rick clones his daughter so that she has the opportunity to explore a life of total freedom and continue to care for her family. Later, in “Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerry”, it is revealed that Rick erased his memory as to which of the variants was the original Beth. However, the two versions eventually decide that they don’t care whether they are a clone or not. Space Beth was already featured in season six when she rescued Rick and Morty from the ruined Citadel in the premiere.
Immediately, the audience begins to expect that something is going on between the two Beths, and after a few scenes of coy flirtation, they begin a romantic relationship. Their passions run high and they soon become careless about hiding their affair. This quirky flirt represents the absolute peak of self love. When Beth reveals the affair to her father, Rick, he confesses that he has had similar flirtations with versions of himself, but that she needs to consider how her family could be affected by such a narcissistic relationship. Beth has always been a bit stubborn, but “Bethic Twinstinct” confirms her self-obsession in the most obvious way imaginable.
Jerry comes out of his shell and finally stands up for himself
Jerry Smith has never been more confident. When he learns about the affair between the two versions of his wife, he is rightly sedated and unexpectedly turns into a mosquito bite, curling up into an impenetrable shell. The two Beths are reluctant to take responsibility for his bugification. Still, they begin to feel sorry for Jerry and decide to broaden their memories of each other to get over the relationship.
When Jerry hears this, he suddenly straightens up and starts ranting about how comfortable he is being the punching bag and how he’s become adept at taking scorn. Jerry starts packing and again pretends he plans to leave Beth, but his feud with his pair of wives culminates in challenging the screams, much to the horror of Morty and Summer.
There are still a handful of episodes left Rick and Morty season six, and the showrunners have suggested new episodes will be released annually. While most of the characters escaped “Bethic Twinstinct” without ever changing their behavior, the audience was able to learn a lot (perhaps too much) about the Smith family in the episode. Space Beth will no doubt be part of future storylines, and the bizarre triad of Space Beth, Mom Beth and Jerry will continue to be the source of extreme discomfort for the Smith Children.
