One of the most terrifying clown movies ever made comes to small screens this Monday, October 31. The question is: do you have the guts to look?
Stephen King showed in 1990 how terrifying clowns can be with the small film adaptation of his bestseller THE. Until Pennywise, there was little unnerving about the beloved circus performers with their broadly painted grins and colorful costumes. But King spawned a new terror, evoking nightmarish allusions many didn’t know they had. Before Pennywise, in 1988, the Chiodo brothers released their comical but horrifying depiction of clowns. Killer Klowns ffrom space were hideous aliens, but no less terrifying. And who could forget Captain Spaulding from Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 corpses?
But in 2016, writer-director Damien Leone took it a step further and showed viewers an even darker side of clowning. His creation was icy, maniacal and bloody horrific. The first Terrier focuses primarily on one person’s encounter with an unforgettable horror before it expands. Tara Heyes (Jenna Kanell) is at the heart of this story. And what looks like an auspicious night of Halloween fun makes up the story. However, what begins as an ordinary night out for Tara Heyes and her friend Dawn ends as an unimaginably bloody night. In fact, it would be that night when she would discover the meaning of true horror. After hours of a grueling and nightmarish ordeal, terror would forever wear the guise of a clown.
While trying to stave off extreme intoxication, Tara and Dawn become the subject of the most sinister of characters. The harmless death of a clown seems to be a strange highlight of the evening. But Tara and Dawn don’t know that their chance encounter with “Art” in their hometown of Pizza Palace would turn into a journey so macabre that the darkest nightmares would pale in comparison.
As time goes by, viewers begin to understand that this nightmare is meaningless. Art is a devil without direction. Sadly, poor Dawn and Tara won’t be the only ones to fall prey to Art’s morbidity. Unfortunately, for most poor souls who cross Art’s path, there is no return of such ill-fated happiness.
Dawn and Tara are caught off guard by Art and his lustful appetite for profane desecration and human dissection. However, they are not the only ones in shock. In fact, Art also elicited rather strong reactions from viewers. According to CBR“Terribler was an intense film that put even the most seasoned horror fan to the test with its ferocity.” It was certifiable. Terrier was not a film for the weak-willed, especially not for the faint of heart, because the film was overloaded with violence.
However, Art, the clown, had made a mark despite critics decrying the film’s success, given the film’s lack of solid premise and extreme gore. He was the newest slasher icon. Art was the embodiment of evil incarnate and the personification of terror.
Fans Demanded More Art the Clown
Not everyone is a fan of devil-may-care violence and gore so lively it stops the blood cold in the veins. However, while the Terrier is not for everyone, it has a diehard fan base. And the fanbase was so captivated by Leone’s creature creation that they gathered to make sure Art would continue to scare the public again. In fact it was the fans of Terrier who provided massive funding for the sequel. Fans have raised over $200,000 on Indiegogo to see Art return to the big screen.
terrier 2 is the result. And the result was indescribable; the sequel resulted in an experiential outpouring that earned it the title of one of the most horrific movies in existence. And given the extreme grotesqueness of the first part, that’s saying a lot. Several sources report that terrier 2 is so extraordinarily gory that moviegoers reacted viscerally, gagging, vomiting and fainting.
How can you watch Terriifier 1 and 2?
terrier 2 was released nationwide on October 6, 2022. However, thanks to Cinedigm and Bloody Disgusting, fans and newcomers to the franchise can watch the film from home on Screambox this coming Halloween. And if a walk through memory or an introduction to the movie franchise is warranted, Terrier streams on Prime Video.
