‘I probably wasn’t ready’

Before Daniel Craig landed the role of James Bond Casino royale, many other actors were considered for the first time. Recently, doctor who star David Tennant claimed he was ready for that role too. Henry Cavill also auditioned for the part, but didn’t get the part because he was considered too young at the time.

utilities, Foreigner star Sam Heughan weighed in on his near-casting as James Bond also for that movie. Talk about auditioning for Casino royale in his new autobiography, Waypoints: My Scottish Journey, Heughan tells us how it felt to miss the part. He also tells EW in a new interview that he now understands why he wasn’t cast as he felt he wasn’t quite ready to take on such a role but he can’t help but wonder how else his life and career would be if he’d got the part.

“It was quite an experience,” explains Heughan. “It was a stage in my life where I probably wasn’t ready for it, but I wonder what would have happened if I had gotten it.”

In a published excerpt from his memoir, Heughan adds: “Look, every British actor has definitely been talked about for the part. I’d love to see a Scottish Bond. Maybe I’m too old now. I know they’re talking about him younger.” I have a feeling that’s where they’re going, but who knows what’s on their mind.”

Sam Heughan Says James Bond Inspired His Performance on SAS: Red Notice

James Bond will have to find a new actor after Daniel Craig leaves the franchise, but Sam Heughan believes the ship has sailed for his potential casting. But the actor has been inspired by 007 in other ways, such as with his performance last year SAS: Red Notification. Heughan also explained how he wanted to pay tribute to Bond specifically with that film. It’s not quite the same as playing Bond, but Heughan thinks it’s probably the closest he’ll ever get.

“He is a great character. He is a dark character. SAS: Red Notification what I did was very much my tribute to the Bond world. We have worked very closely with Andy McNab, a highly decorated British Special Forces operator. It’s all based on him, the character, so in a way it’s a more interesting role than Bond. That was an incredible experience to study him and learn about his experiences. So I feel like I may have tasted that world.”

In the meantime, there may be more action from Heughan. It was recently reported that the actor would star in Days gone by, a film adaptation of the video game. He can also be seen in the upcoming movie It all comes back to me as well as in his starring role in the Starz series Foreigner.
