If we had a 2023 Emmy vote:

With too much television, it’s impossible to watch every piece of content that’s up for consideration for this year’s Primetime Emmy Award nominations. With 163 drama series, 95 comedies, 51 limited series or anthologies, and 61 TV movies, every viewer has their tastes.

Variety staffers have come together to hold their own dream ballot for the Primetime Emmys, with voting set to end at 10:00 p.m. PT tonight.

However, it’s worth noting that we like consistency, especially in the TV world.

With our selections, we want to continue promoting (and advocating) for the Television Academy to allow 10 nominees in the top series categories. Also, we’d like to see uniformity in the cast races (having some categories with five while others have eight doesn’t make much sense. With this big TV boom, more options should be available for the respective queues.

We also don’t “play by the rules” of submissions. If we felt a show did better in one genre over another (i.e. “The Bear”) or if a performer felt like a main entrance as opposed to a supporting one (i.e. ie Brian Cox), so we recognized him as such. We have also combined all reality (competition, structured and unstructured), variety (talk series, scripted, pre-recorded and live varieties) and documentary (series, non-fiction special and hosted) in each of their respective races . Each type of show does not need its own category.

In the list below are expected critically acclaimed suspects, such as HBO’s final seasons of “Barry” and AMC’s “Succession” and “Better Call Saul.” We loved the new genres of the year, such as “Andor”, “House of the Dragon” and “The Last of Us”, but also those which are ignored such as “Star Trek: Picard” by Paramount with Patrick Stewart and Disney’s “The Mandalorian” with Katie Sackoff.

You’ll find inventive and passionate picks that many of us keep our fingers crossed for, like Freevee’s “Jury Duty” (please find love for James Marsden), Netflix’s “Mo” (not talked about enough by the mainstream) and Prime Video’s “Swarm” (which cements Dominique Fishback’s star power).
