James Marsden calls ‘Westworld’ cancellation a ‘disappointment’

“Westworld” star James Marsden is opening up about the disappointment he felt after the show was canceled after its fourth season despite plans for a fifth season of the HBO series.

“I’d be lying if I told you the way we ended ‘Westworld’ wasn’t disappointing,” Marsden told Rolling Stone said this in an interview released on Tuesday. “I will never speak of any of our experiences without gratitude, but it would be nice to be able to finish the story we wanted to finish.”

On top of the initial slew of cancellations, HBO Max pulled “Westworld” from its slate in December in a cost-cutting move resulting from a review of Warner Bros. Discovery’s content slate.

Marsden, who starred in the science-fiction series’ first two seasons before returning for the fourth, expressed his admiration for his “Westworld” family before sharing that being part of the cast “brings those unique experiences of being part of was one of the occasions” some where [he] Also sitting at home as a fan eagerly waiting for the next episode.”

Marsden also emphasized the burden of focusing on the finances to keep the show alive, saying “I want it to be more than a financial success.”

“I totally understand that it’s an expensive show and big shows have to have big audiences to afford it,” he continued.

Despite the current situation, Marsden showed a glimmer of hope that the show could be completed as planned. “Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, because I know we had plans to end it the way we wanted,” he concluded.
