Janhvi Kapoor puts her heart and soul into the film; outdoes himself in this edge-of-the-seat survival drama

Movie: Mili

Mili poured: Janhvi Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, Manoj Pahwa, Hasleen Kaur and more

Mile director: Mathukutty Xavier

Where to watch: In theatres
Review by: Kumar Saras

Janhvi Kapoor has a lot to prove. Her mother was the legendary Sridevi who was known as one of the best actors of her time. Janhvi Kapoor has taken over and we must say that the young girl is steadily proving her worth. She impressed with her role as Gunjan Saxena and now she is here with her movie Mili. The film is directed by Mathukutty Xavier who was also the director of the Malayalam film Helen. Mili is the Hindi remake of Helen starring Anna Ben. The Hindi version of the film clashes with Phone Bhoot, which stars Katrina Kaif, Ishaan Khatter and Siddhant Chaturvedi. So is Mili worth watching this weekend? This review will help you solve the dilemma.

What is it about?

The basis of the film is that Mili is a young nurse who dreams of moving to Canada to build a successful career. She does her very best and has her plan ready. But then a great tragedy strikes. Mili gets stuck in the walk-in freezer of a fast food restaurant and then the nightmare begins. Surviving isn’t easy, especially when your helpless cries go unheard for hours on end. It also brings out the extreme and makes you realize how important life is.

What’s hot?

Janhvi Kapoor has put her heart and soul into the film. She turns out to be one of those who choose her scripts correctly. She is in no rush to pick up anything that comes her way. With every step, with every film, Janhvi Kapoor gets better. Manoj Pahwa plays the role of her father in the film while Sunny Kaushal is her boyfriend. As supporting characters, they did a great job. But the soul of the film definitely remains Janhvi Kapoor. Mathukutty Xavier has tried to keep the Hindi version of the film as honest and similar to Helen’s and that is commendable. The movie will keep you on the edge of your seat as you wonder what’s next. It also makes you think and wonder what a human being can do to survive in this world. However, there is a bit of Bollywood tadka at the end with a cameo from a popular star. We wouldn’t give the name as a spoiler.

What not?

Music plays a big role when it comes to movies and Mili seems to fall short in this area. A good, touching song could have added more flavor to it. At times, the movie seems a little dragged out than it should be.

BollywoodLife statement

Well, we can say that Mili is a full-length paisa vasool movie that you can enjoy during the weekend. We give the movie 3.5 stars.
