Jason Blum Is ‘Super Excited’ For Patrick Wilson’s Directorial Debut With Insidious: Fear The Dark

Jason Blum says he’s really excited to see Patrick Wilson step behind the camera to direct his first feature film.

After spending a lot of time in front of the camera for the horror genre, actor Patrick Wilson will step behind it for the upcoming sequel Treacherous: Fear the dark. The fifth installment of the Treacherous film series, the film is slated for a summer 2023 release. While Wilson returns to reprise his role in the series as Josh Lambert, he simultaneously serves as director and makes his directorial debut.

In a new interview with THR, producer Jason Blum commented on Wilson’s transition to the director’s chair. From his point of view, Blum can’t help but feel great excitement for the film knowing that Wilson is directing. Blum knows Wilson as a movie buff, which always makes their experiences working on movies together that much more enjoyable.

“Well, we all love Patrick. I did one or two movies with that guy. (laughs.) But I’m super excited about what Patrick is up to Treacherous. One of the things I love most about working with Patrick Wilson is that we don’t really talk about the movie we’re making on set. We love all the movies we loved growing up because Patrick and I are pretty much the same generation. We’re just constantly on John Carpenter’s Big problems in Little China and all these movies.”

The producer also explains how Wilson reminds him of Leigh Whannell, another filmmaker whose acting experience helped him a lot with his directing.

“Patrick kind of reminds me of Leigh Whannell in that it’s not just actors who cut whatever; they’re also filmmakers. They’re movie buffs, and as movie buffs, they look at acting from the point of view of what the final movie will be.” And that actually helps inform them as filmmakers. So I’m always really excited when people like Leigh Whannell and Patrick Wilson want to jump behind the camera.”

Leigh Whannell came up with the story for it Treacherous: Fear the dark with Scott Teems writing the script. Along with Patrick Wilson, Ty Simpkins and Rose Byrne also return to reprise their roles as the Lamberts. Peter Dager, Jarquez McClendon, Sinclair Daniel and Hiam Abbass also star.
