Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan are now filming their Walking Dead spin-off, saying it’s going to be “something special.”

The living Dead may not have come to the conclusion yet, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan are already working on the next steps for their respective characters Negan and Maggie. The pair will be reunited on spin-off show The Walking Dead: Dead City, in which the once deadly enemies are moved to a zombie-infested Manhattan island. In a new behind-the-scenes shot of Morgan and Cohan in between takes, they certainly look more than happy to continue their journey together.

The living Dead is currently about to air the third and final installment of its 11th season on AMC, marking the end of the survival horror series after more than a decade. While the series itself has had some ups and downs in viewership, that hasn’t stopped the show from branching out to sister shows like Fear The Walking Dead, Walking Dead: The World Beyond and this summer’s Stories of the Walking Dead. For those who have stuck with the zombie franchise even with the flagship series ending, there are many more stories to tell.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan shared the last photo from the set of dead city on his Instagram, commenting that it “feels like we’re making something special.” With Morgan’s Negan as one of the highlights of The living Deadno doubt his many fans will agree.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Wished Walking Dead Spinoffs Hadn’t Been Announced Until Later

The living Dead will have three new spin-off shows next year, and others are already in development, but with many of them focused on main characters from the series, the ending of the flagship show had almost made a pointless exercise. With other spinoffs focused on Daryl – and a reunion with Carol already teased for the future – along with a Rick and Michonne limited series, there’s little danger in the 11 season finale. those who don’t make it, we know the core stars will be safe.

This is something Jeffrey Dean Morgan wished could have been handled differently. He recently discussed the spin-off series and revealed that he wouldn’t be announcing them until after the end of this year The living Dead. He said in an interview earlier this month:

“That’s not the way we should have handled it. But this is how it was chosen to play out. And who knows? Maybe we couldn’t have kept the secret. But I think we could have given it a shot .

Regardless of this faux pas, The living Dead really stepped up its game in seasons 10 and 11 after chasing after a few seasons and losing viewers en masse. As the Commonwealth storyline now enters its final leg, there are more attunements to see how the once groundbreaking series comes to a close. However, with so many spin-offs planned for next year, it’s almost not the end of a series, but just the end of a chapter.

The living Dead returns to AMC next month for the final 8 episodes.
