Prior to the debut of her new series Wednesday on Netflix, Jenna Ortega got her next starring role. Per DeadlineOrtega has boarded the cast of Miller’s Girla new movie in the making from Lionsgate and Point Grey. Martin Freeman also stars in the film in which “a creative writing assignment produces complex results between a teacher and his talented student.”
Miller’s Girl marks the directorial debut for writer-director Jade Halley Bartlett. Miller’s Girl ranked on the 2016 Black List and Point Gray has been attached to the feature film ever since, although it took some time to get production going. Mary-Margaret Kunze will co-produce with Point Gray, while Josh Fagen will oversee the project along with Lionsgate’s Chelsea Kujawa and Scott O’Brien.
“While we’re delighted that the film speaks for itself, the talent gathered for this special film is testament to Jade, whose screenplay entices you in with her dazzling voice. And then eat yourself alive,” Erin Westerman, head of production at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement.
Production is currently underway on Georgia for Miller’s Girl. The film has no premiere date yet.
Jenna Ortega appears next Wednesday
Miller’s Girl is the latest casting for Jenna Ortega, who has recently become a favorite in the horror genre. Earlier this year, she had notable roles in a trio of popular horror films, which were featured in the new screamthe Foo Fighters movie Studio 666and that of Ti West X. This follows roles in horror movies like Treacherous: Chapter 2 and The Babysitter: Killer Queenalthough she has also appeared in such films as Iron Man 3, Yeah byeand The outage. Ortega is also ready to play her again scream role in the upcoming sequel due out next year.
On the small screen, her work from the past includes Jane the Virgin, Stuck in the middle, youand Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. Ortega will also soon be appearing in one of her biggest roles to date as the protagonist of a new take on The Addams family from director Tim Burton. She will lead the Netflix series called Wednesday, as a new incarnation of Wednesday Addams. The show will hit Netflix this fall.
