Soon after, word broke that Netflix had officially renewed Wednesdaystar of the series Jenna Ortega has been in the news. After the Addams family reboot series debuted on Netflix in November, it was an instant hit. The series quickly became one of the streamer’s most-watched titles of all time, in addition to widespread acclaim from critics and viewers alike. An extension seemed obvious and inevitable, although it was not officially announced until January 6. Now that the news is official, Ortega was finally able to thank everyone.


“Thank you to everyone who made this upcoming season possible,” Ortega wrote on Twitter, sharing a post of the official announcement of the Season 2 renewal.

Indeed. While remakes and reboots of classic properties are never guaranteed to be successful, there was no certainty that Wednesday would be such a hit it has. That being said, the goal, of course, was for the series to continue beyond the first season. Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have also teased where they plan to take the series into a second season.

Wednesday moves the story forward a few years from most adaptations of The Addams family, now follows a slightly older version of the character after she leaves the family home to attend Nevermore Academy. While there, Ortega uses her special abilities to sort out a mystery involving the school and her own family, making an unlikely friend along the way.

Ortega is part of an ensemble cast starring Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Christina Ricci, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Georgie Farmer, Naomi J.
