ABC aired the comedian’s late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Has extended his deal with Jimmy Kimmel for For another three years, through season 23.
“After two decades at ABC, I am now looking forward to three years in what they call ‘quiet quitting,'” he joked in a statement on Tuesday.
The expansion of Kimmel’s self-titled Emmy-winning series would make him one of the longest-running hosts on TV among the likes of Jay Leno, whose late-night show ran for 22 seasons.
“For over 20 years, Jimmy Kimmel has been a huge part of the ABC family and the heartthrob of late-night television,” Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu and Disney-branded television streaming originals, said in a statement. “He has not only entertained our audience night and night with his sharp comedy, dynamic interviews and sleazy humor, but he has gotten us through some of the most important events in our history with optimism and heart. “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” In addition, Kimmel is known for hosting back-to-back Oscar ceremonies in 2017 and 2018, and the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2012, 2016 and 2020. Kimmel is also the host and executive producer of ABC’s Emmys. The award-winning “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” special with Norman Lear and currently serves as producer and EP of the hit Kelly Ripa-hosted game show, “Generation Gap”.
Next January will be “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” 20th anniversary of the show, which this year received its 12th consecutive Emmy nomination for Outstanding Variety Talk Series. Some of Kimmel’s most popular comedy bits include “Mean Tweets,” “I Told My Kids I Eat All Their Halloween Candy,” and interacting with tourists outside his studio on Hollywood Boulevard.
