Jo Koy And Jay Chandrasekhar Talk About Easter Sunday In BTS Clip

New film from comedian Jo Koy Easter Sunday coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 18, and ahead of the home media release, we can debut an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip of the film. The clip features footage from the film along with Koy and director Jay Chandrasekhar talking about what happened in the making of the film. You can watch the video below.

“It’s literally my life,” Koy says of the film’s inspiration. “We’re showing a little bit of love, family, culture, chaos and it all takes place in one day: Easter Sunday.”

“Jo is in his first movie,” Chandrasekhar added. “His stand-up act is really focused on his family and the wild characters in his family. His mother makes him guilty and sends him home to Daily City, California, kind of a center of Western Philippine culture.”

Jo Koy makes his feature film debut on Easter Sunday

Koy has long been a draw in comedy, but it’s not until Easter Sunday came by to give him a chance to star in his own movie. In a recent interview with Forbes, he shared how he struggled for years looking for the opportunity in Hollywood because he was always told there was no place for him in most projects. But sometimes you just need the right person to see your work at the right time, because he was eventually approached by Steven Spielberg himself thanks to a Netflix comedy special.

There was never a character of Filipino descent, so even if you went out for characters it was a very small choice because they didn’t know where to put me,” Koy complained. Why does it have to be specific to Asia? I can play police officer. There are such things as cops who are Asian. Why can’t I play that?’ It was this thing where this cheap excuse is like, ‘Well, we don’t know where to use you.’ You can use me with anything. Thank goodness for Steven Spielberg for watching my Netflix special called Warm in and literally said, ‘I want to make a movie with you.’ That’s how it all went.”

Easter Sunday will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 18, 2022. You can watch the full trailer for the movie below.
