Review by: Russel D’Silvac
Last Tango in Paris, 50 Shaded of Grey, Kabir Singh – what do these films have in common? Well, they are some of the most misogynistic movies of all time, plain and simple. Zeher, kalyug, Aashiqui 2, Malang – what do these films have in common? To put it plainly again, they are some of the most underrated movies ever in bollywoodaided by the criminally underrated Mohit Suri. How could Mr. Suri have made such a drastic fall and what went so horribly wrong with his usually keen sense of filmmaking to make such a terrible joke out of a movie like the John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor and Tara Sutaria stars, Ek Villain Returns, which would have been hilarious considering how ridiculously bad it is, but can’t even reach that status because of how unbearably misogynistic it is. What is it about

Rich brat Gautam (Arjun Kapoor) drops struggling singer Aarvi (Tara Sutaria) for him to get revenge for a viral prank, only to change his mind later, but things turn aside when Bhairav (John Abraham) and Rasika (Disha Patani) going into battle.

Watch the Ek Villain Return trailer below:

what’s hot

Two dialogues, one by Bhairav’s father (Bharat Dabholkar) and the other by Bhairav later caught the eye. A mid-credits scene also opens up interesting and hopefully much better possibilities for the future.

What not

a.) The dialogues are more than cringe.
b.) Every time Arjun Kapoor says “Marna pasand hai, haarna nahi”, there must be a drinking game.
c.) The twists, if you can call them that, can be seen from miles away.
d.) Anyone can go viral by doing the most illogical antics.
e.) The way to a girl’s heart is to stalk, terrorize, and fake rape another girl.
f.) Every girl twice and every boy is an innocent victim of it.
g.) It’s bad to attack a girl for playing twice, but you also have to have sympathy for the poor man’s heart she broke.
h.) John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor compete over whose dialogues are worse.
i.) The songs are an eyesore, the cinematography, an eyesore and the editing, non-existent.
j.) You know you’re in trouble when Disha Patani is the best actor in your ensemble cast.

BL verdict

In a country where women are victims of acid attacks just because they reject a man; Ek Villain Returns makes things problematic on a whole other level. Even legendary filmmakers have made mistakes, and it would have been fine if Mohit Suri had just made a hilariously bad movie instead of such a toxicly bad movie. I’m going with 1 out of 5 stars.

Rating : 1 off 5
