John Oliver Acknowledges Kim Kardashian’s Influence In Solving Art Fraud Scheme – Deadline

John Oliver was back on HBO and HBO Max with a new episode of Last week tonight where Kim Kardashian received a special mention. The comedian bestowed awards on the entrepreneur a few years ago for helping to solve an art fraud.

“A few years ago, at the Met Gala, in 2018,” Oliver said. “Kim Kardashian performed wearing Atelier Versace from head to toe, which was particularly gold.”

Oliver showed a picture of the Egyptian Nedjemankh’s coffin, which the Met had just acquired. Kardashian, dressed in gold, took a picture with the gold coffin and the picture went viral on social media.

An anonymous source tipped international authorities that the coffin was looted and the museum was tricked into buying it for $4 million. Impressed by Kardashian’s power, Oliver added, “The woman has a real knack for producing incredible images just by standing next to men who look like they died a long time ago.”

As Oliver nailed the punchline of his joke, a picture of him appeared alongside The Kardashians Star appeared on screen making fun of himself.

The episode of the late-night show continued to focus on dealers who didn’t do proper research when acquiring artworks, which were often stolen. Oliver dealt another blow to Kardashian when he noted that museums couldn’t just sit back and do research and wait “until Kim Kardashian takes a picture in front of one of our properties and we get humiliated on the international stage.” It can’t be her sole responsibility, she’s too busy revolutionizing shapewear.”

Last week tonight with John Oliver airs Sunday nights at 11 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
