Jonathan Majors comes on arguably the biggest role of his life as he becomes the main antagonist of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. He will debut as Kang The Conquerer in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a role fans have been waiting for a long time. After Josh Brolin’s performance as Thanos, Kang is the next big baddie, and the 33-year-old actor has big shoes to fill.
During an interview with Men’s health, the actor told what drew him to the role, and how he wants to play Kang. “It was the character and dimensions of Kango [that drew him to the role.] And the potential it had. I thought I’d give it a shot,” Majors explained. The actor teamed up with strength-and-conditioning coach Jamie Sawyer to boost his performance, with Sawyer adopting the same approach he uses with MMA fighters. is the warrior version of Kang, so there was a focus on what that warrior would look like that has been there through the ages and developed each type of combat skill. It was about making him look like an imposing figure.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige praised Majors and said his presence requires attention. “Jonathan is an incredibly compelling actor who does the job yet makes it look effortless, and he’s just plain cool too – everyone pays attention when he steps into the room.” Majors has shown tremendous dedication to his craft, with Men’s Health stating that he gained 10 pounds of muscle for his Kang role, with another 5 pounds for the upcoming Beliefs movie. Majors should fully embody Kang The Conquerer by then Ant Man 3 rolls around and arrives in theaters on February 17, 2023.
Jonathan Majors embraces being awkward while training for Kang
Jonathan Majors first appeared as a variant of Kang The Conquerer in the Loki season finale when he plays He Who Remains. However, this rendition was far from its Kang counterpart and required little training for the role. Now that the actor is officially playing a super villain, he recognizes the standards that come with it.
“I watch Kang and I go, okay, cool. It’s a certain IP where people expect this at a bare minimum,” he says of the psychic transformation required for certain Marvel characters. “No one should put themselves or their family in a place where they hurt, but your own discomfort isn’t necessarily a bad thing. That’s growth. It’s not comfortable, but you’re here to save the world, aren’t you Or the world taking over.”
He adds that he is breaking away from previous villains such as Killmonger and Thanos, allowing for his own role in the MCU. Majors will have an entire movie around his character, although he will no doubt appear in multiple projects in the multiverse saga. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
