The beloved Kannada movie, Kantara starring Rishab Shetty opens in Hindi cinemas today. The film has had a good opening in Hindi as early trends show it is in the range of €1.25 to 1.50 crores. This is actually a very good start for a movie of Kannada origin with a local touch and a whole new face to the audience.

The beginning is better than missiles [Rs. 1.25 cr.] and Godfather in Hindi and it should be noted that the opening of both the aforementioned films was aided by the presence of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan respectively. Kantara unsupported bollywood stars has opened better than the movies with cameos of popular hindi movie names. The beginning is also better than Vikramwhich benefited from the presence of Kamal Haasan, who is again a familiar face in the Hindi market.

The film has collected around Rs. 50 to 60 lakhs in the three national chains with the non-national chains contributing another Rs. 70 lakh to Rs. 80 million. Word of mouth in the Hindi market is also quite good and the film is expected to climb the ladder at a superlative level over the weekend. if Kantara even manages to do Rs. 12-15 crores, in the long run it would be a reasonable result for a regional looking movie in the Hindi market.

After KGF 2, Kannada movies are also slowly looking for some sort of business in Hindi belts. Earlier, 777 Charlie also did good business in Hindi with no familiar faces, and now, Kantara will also target a comparable or even better number.
