Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell Have Surprise Reunion at the Emmys

Ah, there it goes! At the Primetime Emmy Awards Monday night ceremony, former child star and lifelong comedian Kenan Thompson served as host. It’s the actor’s latest milestone since his Nickelodeon days next to Kel Mitchell appear in shows like All of that and Kenan & Kel. Fans of the duo will also remember when they starred together in the 1997 comedy Good burger.


During the Emmys, Thompson was seen at the bar run by Kumail Nanjiani. Thompson encourages him to take the order from a nearby customer with his head on the counter. After Thompson gives the man a nudge, it is revealed that it is Mitchell, and the two act very dizzy to see each other again.

“Can we get you a drink or something?” asked Thompson.

“You know what, can I have a Good Burger?” Mitchell responded.

“Make it two Good Burgers,” Thompson added before the two broke out in their kung fu moves together.

Kenan & Kel Aired for four seasons on Nickelodeon from 1996 to 2000. Starring Thompson and Mitchell as two best friends in Chicago, the series won the “Favourite TV Show” award at the Kids’ Choice Awards in 1998. The duo’s collaborations also expanded to the big screen with the Good burger film in 1997, with Mitchell reprising the role of Ed he played in Good Burger sketches on the sketch comedy show All of that.

Good Burger 2 Talks have warmed up

It’s possible we could see Mitchell and Thompson do another one Good burger movie. Previously, the two were reunited for a Good burger sketch featured on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon in 2015. Since then, many fans have been calling for a full-length sequel, but that never happened. In an interview with MovieWeb in July, Mitchell said he’s still up for a new movie.

“It’s great that people love Good burger after all these years, even Jimmy Fallon,” Mitchell told us. “When he asked us to do that, we were like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it,’ and to see the standing ovation in the audience and everyone to go crazy… it was the gift that just keeps on giving.”

He added: “You never know what could happen…the fans really want a sequel…would I do a sequel? Yes of course. We love Good burger.
