Kit Young on Jesper Being Grisha

“Shadow and Bone” sharpshooter Jesper Fahey (Kit Young) keeps his guns close, but he keeps his past and true identity even closer.

In “Shadow and Bone” season 2, Jesper and the crows are back in action, mostly set against the plot of “Siege and Storm” and “Ruin and Rising” by writer Leigh Bardugo. Jesper remains talkative who has a flair for dramatics and theatrics, but it turns out he still has parts of him yet to unfold.

“Jasper is quite unique in the Grishaverse because he is the only Secret Grisha of a kind,” Young told TheWrap. “Everyone is on some level, if not out and proud, then it is known, it is something that people are known about and therefore have to hide about themselves, as it says enough is, I think, in this world.”

Jesper is a Durst, a Grisha title that technically belongs to the Materialki order of those who can manipulate matter. Although there is Jesper Zemeni, and Grisha of Novi Zem prefer not to limit their powers to a specific category.

“It’s like a private coming out party in a way. I think she’s really on a journey of self-discovery in this way,” Young said. “They have their reasons [hiding this part of himself] — his kind of personal family trauma, and he never really got over it.

During a scene in Shu Han where the crows go to find a mystical knife that can cut through shadows, three of the four of the group fall prey to the hallucinogenic elixir, and Jesper is visited by his dead mother who praises him. That’s how far she’s come as Grisha.

“He distracts himself with other things. Shooting a gun is a great distraction, because if he’s such a good shooter, you don’t need to rotate [the guns] All the time,” Young said. “They’ve created this whole persona, this whole act and it stays that way. And it’s really only this group of people who are these characters who can see through it.

Kaz Brecker (Freddie Carter) reveals early in season 2 that he knows that Jesper is a Durest based on his ability to fix things without tools or indeed move at all, and that with his pistol his The bullseye is the target. Jesper’s careful curation of his image and appearance through fashion also covers his deeper self.

“I am completely spoiled when it comes to clothes and what I get to wear. It’s a red leather jacket that feels very Matrix-y and everybody got to see the costume in front of me and everybody was like, ‘I want that jacket,'” Young, who starred alongside Laurence Fishburne in “The School for Good Worked on “And Evil”. Added. “It’s an extension of that personality. He’s kind of brazen himself, but he’s choosing which version of himself he is. And it’s really, really fun to play that because we all do that.

At the red carpet premiere of the Netflix series’ second season, Young told TheWrap that she filmed “Shadow and Bone” season 2 episodes 5 and 6 while shooting the intro scene for the Netflix movie “The School for Good and Evil” . In which he portrays a set of twins – Rafal and Riyan – who duel with the sword of death.

“I didn’t really know who I was – I was going back and forth between three different characters,” he said. “I kept thinking ‘is it gun day or sword day?'”

Familiar with fantasy, Young expressed gratitude for her ability to use “shadow and bone” to depict a common human experience.

“If you’re hiding something about yourself, you’re telling a story that’s completely fictional today, and the odds are low that it’s meant to be,” he said. “You can really do whatever you want. It was a real treat to do that.
