Kumail Nanjiani stars in trailer

Kumail Nanjiani dreams big and hits hard in the new trailer for the Hulu series “Welcome to Chippendales,” in which he stars as the founder of the iconic all-male strip club empire.

“Chippendales” chronicles the journey of Indian immigrant Somen “Steve” Banerjee (Nanjiani) from shop worker to business mogul, and his single-minded campaign to stay ahead of the competition.

Set in Los Angeles in the late 1970s, the trailer begins with Banerjee turning down a promotion to pursue the success and lifestyle she has been yearning for. “I’m going to start my own business: a strip club for women,” he tells his boss.

Drawing on the talents and services of characters played by Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett and Annaleigh Ashford, Banerjee puts her skeptics to rest when the Chippendales become a smash hit.

“It could be huge. It could be global,” Lewis’ character says. “Russia, China, the whole world,” he agrees.

But Banerjee encounters a snag when her choreographer and business partner Nick De Noia (Bartlett) begins to take credit for the company, introducing himself as its face and founder. As their rivalry escalates, De Noia warns him that “there will be bloodshed” – and between shots of high life blood splatters and guns blazing and the Chippendales confirm that he is right.
