The much talked about, hugely promoted and highly anticipated release Laal Singh Chaddha hit screens last week on Thursday 11th August. Starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, the Advait Chandan director was expected to become one of the biggest money-spinners of the year. In fact, trading forecasts claimed that: Laal Singh Chaddha would open with a bang. However, contrary to expectations, the film, which received less than rave reviews, opened on a much lower note, sending shockwaves through the industry. After this lackluster opening, the film struggled to pick up on the second day.

Collecting Rs. 37.96 cr Laal Singh Chaddha has emerged as the sixth biggest opening weekend of 2022. In fact, the film industry has managed to surpass previous releases such as JugJugg Jeeyo which collected Rs. 36.93 cr, Bachchhan Paandey which collected Rs. 36.17 cr, Shamshera which collected Rs. 31.75 cr, and Raksha Bandhan which collected Rs. 28.16 cr. However, despite the immense promotions and hype surrounding Laal Singh Chaddha, the film fails to compete with certain other releases such as KGF – Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 193.99 cr, RRR which collected Rs. 75.57 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 55.96 cr, Samrat Prithviraj which collected Rs. 39.40 cr, and Gangubai Kathiawadic which had collected Rs. 39.12 cr.
Forward, while the company of Laal Singh Chaddha has been a shock so far, with Monday being a national holiday, predictions say the film’s business will see an uptick. However, the lackluster reviews and unthankful word-of-mouth from the public were rather disastrous for the film’s overall business. As it looks now Laal Singh Chaddha faces a difficult time at the checkout.
