After a four-year hiatus, Aamir Khan had certainly expected better theatrical prospects from his drama, Laal Singh Chaddha. Early estimates put the Advait Chandan film in the range of €11.00 to 12.50 crores. It was a very bad show for the movie across the board with the national multiplex chains as a saving grace.

The opening is worse than the Kabir Khan director, 83, and the Farhad Samji film, Bachchhan Paandey, which speaks volumes about how poorly he performed on opening day. The mass-band performance was dismissal to say the least, and given the film reports, we don’t expect Laal Singh Chaddha to do any kind of business outside of the metros.

The opening of Laal Singh Chaddha has sent shockwaves across the Hindi film industry and everyone has gone into a state of reconsideration and re-strategy. An Aamir Khan movie, even in the worst-case scenario, should have opened for Rs. 15 million dollars. With such a start, the message to the public is loud and clear – make a good cinema fit for a big screen.

Laal Singh Chaddha’s trailer was heavily criticized and that was followed by a poor marketing campaign, leading to minimal pre-release buzz and thus a very bad start. It’s been a week full of holidays and therefore Laal Singh Chaddha still has a chance to make face-saving numbers, but the opening has put an end to the dream of hitting big numbers at the box office.
