As previously reported, talented singer and actress Lady Gaga (A star is born) has embarked on the project as Harley Quinn to star in the film alongside a returning Joaquin Phoenix. It has also been reported that the sequel will be tonally different from the original joker in an important way, because it is being developed as a musical.
joker 2 cinematographer Lawrence Sher recently appeared on: The Hollywood Reporter behind the screen podcast and shared a little tease about what fans can expect from the film. While some fans have debated Gaga’s casting, Sher fully backs it, arguing that she’s actually perfect for the role. Sher suggests that Gaga will be bringing something special to the role the same way Phoenix did with his version of the Joker, so putting them together sounds like a recipe for success. From the interview:
“She will be a really cool fit for this movie and will create a similar kind of magic that Joaquin herself brought. The combination of the two will be exactly what we hope, which is exciting, and we will find magic on set every day. Hopefully we’ll get a little madness there too. We like it when there is a bit of chaos.”
Lady Gaga has the endorsement of another Harley Quinn artist
You can mention Margot Robbie as another supporter of Lady Gaga in the role of Harley Quinn. It is famous that Robbie Quinn had starred in multiple movies in the DCEU and became synonymous with the super villain in many ways. But Robbie is also more than happy to share that role with Gaga, as he feels the character is iconic enough to go from one “great actor” to another and that Gaga will do something unique with the role. As Robbie told MTV News:
“It makes me so happy because I’ve said from the beginning that I just want Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, like Macbeth or Batman is always passed from a great actor to a great actor. It’s like someone may do their Batman, or someone may do their Macbeth I have a feeling it’s, in not so many cases, female characters – Queen Elizabeth I, but otherwise, which I must also have a crack at, which I was honored to I was like, ‘Wow! Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I can.’ It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to play. And I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”
Todd Phillips returns to direct the film joker continued with a screenplay he co-wrote with Scott Silver. Zazie Beetz is also reportedly on board to reprise her role from the first film with new cast members including Brendan Gleeson, Harry Lawtey, Catherine Keener and Jacob Lofland.
Joker: Foil deux will be released in theaters on October 4, 2024.
