Laura Haddock says there were ‘3 different versions’ of Max’s story for Netflix series ‘The Recruit’

Laura Haddock says her character Max’s storyline in the new CIA-themed show “The Recruit” could have gone one of three different ways.

The English actress co-stars with Noah Centineo in Alexi Hawley’s highly anticipated action series, which follows a young CIA lawyer named Owen (Centino) whose first week on the job becomes a dangerous adventure mission when a former Russian asset is seized. Max, the Russian asset, is played by Haddock, who shared with TheWrap that she didn’t know about Max’s cliffhanger ending until she got the final script.

Haddock said, “Going into it, there were three different versions of where we took Max.”

“Throughout filming we were constantly talking about what felt right and whether he played his last card,” she said. “Does he still have cards left? We were always having conversations around that. But ultimately, it’s only when you get the script that you know exactly what happens. No spoilers, but when I got to know how the story was progressing after the script was handed over to me.”

When it came to improving her Russian pronunciation, Haddock said she worked with a dialect coach and an accent coach, adding that she was learning not only Russian pronunciation but the language as well.

“Honestly, I like working on accents,” Haddock said. “I would actually prefer to work in an accent than not in an accent.”

Haddock said of preparing to play Max, “I started to surround myself with it, and listen to it a lot and play it.” “I knew I wanted her voice to be lower than mine, so I dropped her voice in tone. I kind of like, sing-sing when I talk. My voice goes back and forth and up and Bottom line, I wanted Max to be pretty consistent because I found it was a pattern when I was listening to Russian accents or Russian women speaking English with their accents.

The Recruit consists of eight episodes, all of which have acronym-based titles that stand in as CIA-like codes that viewers can try to decipher. The acronyms actually represent lines from their respective episodes. , an Easter egg Haddock says she was completely clueless about.
