Lucifer Showrunner focuses on potential spin-offs

Lucifer retired from Netflix last year, and showrunner Joe Henderson has hinted at the potential for spin-offs in the future.

The popularity of fantasy series Match became apparent when the series was canceled by Fox after its third season, only to be revived on Netflix. Now, a year after the end of the Tom Ellis-led show and a new iteration of the character appearing in the sandman, played by Gwendoline Christie, has seen the series gain attention again, mainly due to unfair comparisons between the two versions of the Lord of Hell. While previous spin-offs were discussed, Match showrunner Joe Henderson has discussed whether they are still viable after the series conclusion. Speak with TVLineHenderson said:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“There’s always talk of spin-offs… I mean, honestly, especially in the beginning, yeah — and then one of the big things we focused on was making sure we told as much story as possible with all of that.” our characters, knowing this was our only chance, possibly, and then finish the season and then discuss any spin-offs after that, especially when we made Maze a bounty hunter, all those things, we fantasized that show in our heads. a number of times, especially seasons 2, 3 and 4. When we saw all the potential of these characters, we kind of focused on, “How do we make sure that we can tell every story we can with them with the time we have? “And if we’re ever lucky enough to have future spin-offs, we’re going to have to be smart enough to find a new story.”

Tom Ellis’ Lucifer is a Sandman spin-off

It may have taken a long time for Neil to bring Gaiman the sandman to life on Netflix, but long before that, Tom Ellis starred in Lucifer, a fantasy series that borrowed its diabolical title character directly from the graphic novels of the sandman. Lucifer’s plot and characters have always been loosely based on Gaiman’s original creation, making it almost a spin-off in its own right. When the cast list for the sandman was announced, the comparisons and complaints began almost immediately.

Lucifer’s revival was a collaboration between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery, and though it gave fans of the show three extra seasons and brought the series to a real close. Considering the original season of Match was also the most watched, the critical reviews were not great, but the series saw the review scores jump immediately from the second season and kept them until the last episodes. Or Warner Bros. Discovery wants to invest even more in the show, especially with ? the sandman now a series in itself.

While the chances of seeing Ellis’s version of the devilish character, or any of the characters from his universe returning to screens, are pretty slim right now, any popular IP could always potentially make a comeback. Once Warner Bros. Discovery has its house in order and decides where to focus its future efforts, there can always be a glimmer of hope that the world of Match will somehow return.
