Man of Steel 2’s treatment was written by the creator of Peaky Blinders before production was halted

The executives of Warner Bros. Discovery were “not happy” with Steven Knight’s screenplay for a sequel to Man of Steel.

What happens next with the Man of Steel remains to be seen amid ongoing changes in the DCU, courtesy of new mainmen Peter Safran and James Gunn. After years of fans begging to see Henry Cavill back as Superman, the time has finally come with a special appearance in Black Adam. The meeting teased a follow-up with a fight between the two powerful characters, along with the determination that Cavill was seemingly back and here to stay as the Man of Steel.

With Safran and Gunn plotting the next decade of their plans for the DCU, it’s unclear what the next steps will be with Superman, as rumors circulate that Black Adam 2 won’t happen in the end. Now, per THR, more information has come out about possible plans for Superman’s return to Warner Bros. Discovery before Safran and Gunn came aboard. According to this new report, plans for it had actually been set in motion Man of steel 2 with Cavill, though apparently Zack Snyder wouldn’t have been involved.

Discovery “didn’t excite”, and he was given notes to apply to adjust what was written. Another recent report from Deadline notes that Warner Bros. Discovery was nothing set in stone Man of steel 2, and it was more that the plans to make the movie depended on a solid enough screenplay that would impress executives. While all previously discussed versions of Man of steel 2 seems to have been shelved, the positive here for fans is that doesn’t necessarily mean Cavill is done as Superman. He could still return for Man of steel 2but with a different screenplay written to be more in line with Safran-Gunn’s vision for the DCU.

Meanwhile, rumors continue to surface about other planned projects being shelved due to the creative shake-up in the DCU. Wonder Woman 3 no longer advances, while a film adaptation of Batman over starring Michael Keaton would also be ignored.
