The historical epic of Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan 1 with Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha creating new records every day at the box office. On Monday, it entered the Rs. 175 crore club in Tamil Nadu and became the highest-grossing film of all time in the state. The film has bypassed the Tamil Nadu collections of Kamal Haasan’s gangster thriller Vikram, which had amassed Rs. 172 crores with a release earlier this year in June.

PS1 now steps closer to Rs. 200 crore club in the state and if it manages to reach the number it would be the first ever Tamil film to clock the Rs. 200 crore marks in the state. The film also ranks high at the global box office with a worldwide gross of around Rs. 375 crores plus, it will soon be zooming in on the Rs. 400 crore club. By doing so, PS1 would become only the third Tamil film after 2.0 and Vikram to earn Rs. 400 crore or more at the worldwide box office.

While 2.0 is number one with a global collection of Rs. 600 crore plus, Vikram has the 2 . busynd spot with Rs. 435 crore gross. Seeing an all-time grosser in an industry is a rare phenomenon, but the Tamil film fraternity has seen two all-time grossers in the span of 3 months. It took 5 years for Vikram to break the record of baahubali 2 and it was a matter of just 5 months for PS 1 to topple Vikram at the box office.

In 2023, the industry has been hyped to see another record in the state with the release of PS2 during the summer.
