Maren Morris has revealed she doesn’t “feel comfortable” attending the CMA Awards this year and may skip the event altogether. The country singer is nominated for Album of the Year humble quest but may avoid the awards show following her feud with Jason Aldean’s wife, social media influencer Brittany Aldean.
“I haven’t decided yet if I’m going,” she said Los Angeles Times. “I am very honored that my record is nominated. But I don’t know if I feel [at] home there now. So many people I love will be in this room, and maybe I’ll make a decision at game time and leave. But right now I’m not comfortable with it.”
Morris clashed with Brittany after the influencer made a joke that was deemed transphobic.
“I really want to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I was going through my tomboy phase. I love this girl’s life,” she wrote Instagram in August.
The voice Alum Cassadee Pope referenced Brittany’s social media post Twitter and Morris replied with this: “It’s so easy not to be a bastard? Sell your clip-ins and zip it up, Insurrection Barbie.”
Morris’ response went viral and Brittany was booked by Fox News and appeared on The Tucker Carlson Show to defend her stance. Carlson called Morris “crazy” and Morris flipped the script, embraced the adjective, and began selling t-shirts on her website. In the end, Morris raised over $150,000, with proceeds going to organizations supporting transgender youth.
