The Curse of Bridge Hollow is something new for Marlon Wayans
For director Jeff Wadlow, whose other films include: Kick Ass 2, Truth or Dareand Fantasy Islandit was exciting to play a Halloween oriented movie like The Curse of Bridge Hollow. This is because Wadlow was always a “huge Halloween fan” growing up seeing this movie as his chance to build the world and “create this whole canvas of this town obsessed with Halloween.”
In a Tudum In the interview, Wadlow also spoke about the casting of the film’s lead actors, Marlon Wayans and Priah Ferguson. He shared that this was something new for Wayans and how well the actor bonded with Ferguson, who plays his daughter, and Kelly Rowland, who plays his character’s wife.
“I think he played a father on TV, but this might be his first movie where he plays a father,” Wadlow said. “And I love that he just embraces that and that his audience travels with him through every stage of his life.”
He added: “It was a real pleasure to tell a story about a woman and a man who love each other, who have no conflict. And you can just feel the affection. I mean, I think there is actually a little more was conflict on the page, but Kelly and Marlon brought in so much chemistry and love that even though conflict is written for the dialogue, you just feel this underlying foundation of love in their relationship.
“I loved the Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and Richard Donner movies growing up, that nostalgic feeling of seeing something special and different and magical,” the filmmaker also said of what he hopes audiences will feel when watching. The Curse of Bridge Hollow. “That’s really what we were trying to do with this movie. We really wanted that ’80s Amblin” [Entertainment] tone, but with a modern sensibility, and I hope that’s what people experience when they watch the film.”
The Curse of Bridge Hollow will premiere exclusively on Netflix for streaming on October 14, 2022.
