MasterChef AustraliaThe new season of was pushed back to Sunday evening (May 7) following the death of Judge Jock Zonfrillo.
The 15th season of the Network 10 and Endemol Shine Australia cook-off was due to launch in Australia last Sunday but was postponed after it was revealed Zonfrillo had died unexpectedly at the age of 46.
According to the broadcaster, Zonfrillo’s family approved Network 10’s plan. Filming was already wrapped, with Zonfrillo, Andy Allen and Melissa Leong as the judging trio. A special dedicated to the chef and the network will air right before the episode on the current show The Sunday Project.
“With the full support of Jock Zonfrillo’s family, MasterChef Australia will air Sunday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.,” the report said.
“MasterChef Australia Judge Jock Zonfrillo took great pride in challenging and coaching the contestants and of course inspiring a nation of home cooks.
“We cherish this season with Jock in our hearts and remember the charismatic and generous judge and chef we knew and loved. Jock will be remembered MasterChef Australia kitchen for years to come.”
The Sunday Project Segment will feature posts from friends reflecting on his personal and professional life.
Zonfrillo agreed master chef Team as judges alongside former winner and chef Allen and food critic Leong in 2019 after the elimination of Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston. While some feared the changes would affect ratings, the show continues to be one of Australia’s top-performing reality competitions and is selling internationally.
