MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The drama kicked off earlier this week when several excerpts from Perry’s upcoming memoir, Friends, lovers and the big terrible thing, seemingly revealed a mind-boggling sense of disgust Perry feels toward Keanu Reeves. Reeves has seen a major upswing in his career in recent years thanks to the wildly successful John Wick franchise, and appears to be one of the friendliest, most genuine A-listers in Hollywood.

Matthew Perry revealed his peculiar dislike for Keanu Reeves in his upcoming memoir

“Why do the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” Perry says in the memoir. River was a beautiful man inside and out and too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys that go down.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Perry later makes mention of Reeves when he describes how he felt after learning about the death of comedian Chris Farley. “When I found out, I punched a hole through the wall of Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room. Keanu Reeves is walking below us,” the clip reads.

So, do we believe Matthew Perry used Keanu Reeves’ name randomly? In any case, this makes the situation even weirder, as Perry begins by discussing the late River Phoenix, a well-known friend and associate of Reeves, before throwing in Reeves’ name for seemingly no rhyme or reason. The “random name” defense might have been more believable if Perry hadn’t reused Reeves’ name in a different sentence that suggests Perry thinks Reeves should be taken instead of people like River Phoenix or Chris Farley.

Whether Perry really means this last statement or whether he is simply responding to the reaction he undoubtedly suffered following the release of these snippets remains known only to him. In either case, the whole situation, and Perry’s use of Reeves’ name, remains strange and totally unnecessary.

Regardless of how Matthew Perry may or may not feel, Keanu Reeves remains hugely popular with the public. The beloved actor will reprise the role of the unstoppable hit man John Wick in the upcoming sequel John Wick: Chapter 4which will be released in theaters in the United States on March 24, 2023.
