Matthew Perry Reveals Apparent Loathing of Keanu Reeves in New Memoir

Universally loved actor Keanu Reeves is one of Hollywood’s most popular stars, but not everyone is a fan. As it turns out, friends star Matthew Perry apparently not a fan of the John Wick actor. This revelation was revealed in Perry’s new memoir called Friends, lovers and the big terrible thingthrough multiple shots at Reeves.

Per Page six, a reference to Reeves came after Perry told a story about the late actor River Phoenix. Perry and Phoenix previously worked together on the film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon, which was released in 1988. Looking back on Phoenix’s death in 1993, Perry morbidly joked that it should have been Keanu Reeves instead. As Perry writes:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“How come the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us? … River was a beautiful man inside and out and too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It seems always be the really talented guys who are going down.”

At another point in the memoir, Perry again digs into Reeves in response to the death of another actor. This time, Perry talks about the passing of comedy legend Chris Farley after the two shared the screen in the comedy film Almost Heroes. Perry describes his angry reaction to hearing of Farley’s death and again regretted that it was unfair that it wasn’t Reeves.

“When I found out, I punched a hole through the wall of Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room. Keanu Reeves walks below us.”

There are no additional references to Reeves in the book, nor is it explained why Perry feels this way about the Matrix star. The two actors have never worked together and it is not clear if they actually met. Perry may not be a fan of Reeves’ work as an actor, as his comments about Phoenix seem to imply that Reeves has no talent.

Matthew Perry also writes about his addiction struggle

In his memoir, Perry talks about the problems he has had with his addiction problems over the years. He says he spent about $9 million on his path to sobriety, having had many relapses along the way. He also wrote about how his friends co-stars, especially Jennifer Aniston, had been there for him the whole time, taking care of him in a way that penguins would do to each other.

“It’s like penguins. Penguins, in nature, when someone is sick or someone is badly hurt, the other penguins surround it and support it. They walk around it until that penguin can walk alone. That’s kind of what the cast did it for me.”

Friends, lovers and the big terrible thing will be released on November 1, 2022.
