The second season of Taylor Sheridan’s original drama series “Mayor of Kingstown” begins Sunday, January 15, exclusively on Paramount+, the streamer said Tuesday.
A teaser was released to accompany the announcement, featuring series stars Jeremy Renner and Diane Wiest, alluding to the aftermath of the prison riots from the first season finale.
“Our new reality is the result of a riot,” Rainer’s Mike McCluskey says of a montage of scenes from last season. “All that is left is chaos.”
Co-creators and Academy Award nominees Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon follow the McCluskey family of Kingstown Mayor, the power broker in Kingstown, Michigan, where incarceration is the only thriving business. The McCluskey family has influence in the industry, and the show chronicles their efforts to streamline the system and prevent the city’s social order from devolving into chaos. Other topics addressed include systemic racism, corruption and inequality. The series also stars Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Emma Lear, Toby Baumtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allen-Hedley and Aidan Gillan.

The second season of “Mayor of Kingstown” is the latest addition to Sheridan’s growing slate on Paramount+, which includes “1883,” the upcoming series “Tulsa King,” “1923,” “Bass Reeves,” “Lioness,” and “Land Man.” Huh. Sheridan is also behind the eagerly-watched “Yellowstone,” which follows John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and his family as they struggle to maintain ownership of their ranch and land, while facing threats from outside. Like Native Americans, land developers encroached on more.
