Former actress and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, through their Archewell Foundation website, honored Britain’s longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, who died peacefully on September 8 at the age of 96.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, all features of the site have been disabled and the landing page consists only of a black background with the words: “In loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. 1926-2022” written in white letters. Queen Elizabeth II died Thursday afternoon at the Royal Family’s Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
The website also shared the statement released by the royal family announcing her death. “The Queen passed away peacefully this afternoon in Balmoral,” it read. “The King and Queen Consort remain in Balmoral tonight and return to London tomorrow.” King Charles III – who became King of the UK and Commonwealth after his mother’s death – also issued a statement expressing “greatest sadness”.
“We deeply mourn the passing of a beloved Sovereign and a dearly beloved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt across the country, the wealthy and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world,” the statement read in part. News of Queen Elizabeth II’s death came just hours after Buckingham Palace revealed she was under medical supervision because her doctors were “concerned” for her health.
She will be succeeded by her firstborn son, Charles, who said in a statement: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of greatest sorrow for me and all members of my family. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.”
