Michael J. Fox tells Whoopi Goldberg how he turned down Ghost (VIDEO)

Michael J. Fox and “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg are longtime friends. So long in fact that he accompanied her to the 1991 Academy Awards, where she won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in the 1990 hit film “Ghost.”

But as it turns out, there was a chance at one point they could have attended the Oscars together as co-stars instead of friends — if only Fox hadn’t turned down an offer to appear in “Ghost” years ago. Had given. Although it was news to Goldberg, he was stunned when Fox revealed it on Thursday’s episode of “The View.”

The “Back to the Future” star, 67, was on “The View” to discuss his new documentary “Still,” which chronicles his career and his struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Obviously being old friends, he and Goldberg reminisced about their careers and friendship, including the time they went to the Oscars together. And at one point he asked her, “Are there any roles you regret turning down?”

Fox replied, “Working with you was an opportunity I missed.”

“When?” Goldberg asked.

“He talked to me about ‘Ghost’ early on. I said, ‘It’ll never work.’ I said, ‘Whoopee is great, but it’s never going to work.’ And then it was great, and great, and I’m stupid,” Fox said sadly.

“Well, you know what? There’s still time. So, yeah, we’ll find something to do now,” Goldberg told Fox.

now fox had First revealed this bit of Hollywood what-could-have-been Trivia last week. But Whoopi missed it, apparently, leading to that delightful exchange. We are not complaining.
