Nazanin Boniadi says playing Bronwyn got her excited

She has no special powers, no super-human fighting skills, nor a millennium life expectancy, but Nazanin Boniadi’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” character Bronwyn is an inspiring woman of great inner strength. Who, as we’ve seen in the season so far, will find a way to hold ourselves in any situation.

“I was really happy to play Bronwyn,” Boniadi told TheWrap on Zoom, sometime during filming.

Indeed, since we first met healer and single mom Bronwyn at the series premiere of “Rings of Power”—one of the humans living in a community under the watchful eye of the elves—she’s been a constant wonder. . She has raised a teenager, Theo (Tyro Muhafidin), through tough and lean times, who sometimes proves to be a good fit as a rebellious young man, and though initially cautious about publicizing it, She was set to form a romantic attachment with the elf Arondir ( Ismail Cruz- Cordova).

In addition to her personal relationships, she is a woman who fought like a warrior to save her son and herself from a bloodthirsty orc who emerged from under the floor. And she brought her head to the local tavern, slamming it on the bar countertop as evidence to convince suspects that it was time to flee the village.

More recently, however, he stepped in to help lead his people—despite the lack of royal pedigree, as he noted—to encourage them to stand up and fight against the Adars and orcs. Making a spirited speech, those who are determined to oppress them.

“There are some scenes that really resonated deeply with me — one of them was in my audition scenes, which is a speech. And that’s because I can relate to this woman who wants to free her people.” It connects so deeply with me on a personal level, with my activism for my homeland, Iran,” Boniadi, who was born in Iran and grew up in England, told TheWrap (her comment was made by Iranian women). About a week before the protest began (the suspicious death of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for wearing the hijab inappropriately). “I remember channeling like I was talking to my compatriots — Iranian people. I’m like, ‘Let’s do this,’ and it felt very connected to my core essence. And bringing something like that to the screen. There’s nothing like that that deeply affects you and resonates with you on such a deep, human level,” Boniadi said. “And then, of course, I love it like talking to people and getting dirty. And to really use physical prowess to be like this inspiring person, whatever it takes.”

When Boniadi, best known for his roles in “Homeland,” “Scandal,” and Starz’s canceled-they-too-beginning series “Counterpoint,” found himself playing Bronwyn in a Prime Video production, he Hungry for change.

“I was at a point in my career when I found this where I was looking for something I’ve never done before — a challenge,” she said. “I wanted to make sure I knew what I was going to do, and I tried to get as much information as I could. And Bronwyn’s promise was really exciting. I was so looking forward to playing this character.” that they told me I would do incredible things, and she wasn’t one-dimensional. … She was versatile, and she had agency and she was a therapist, yes, and she was also the single mother of a rebellious teenage son, and [had] Taboo romance with an elf and all those things. But.. that was a pleasant surprise to me [that] It was hinted at from the beginning – whether her inner strength, the unlikely leader, the man who is nurturing on the one hand but bold on the other and that those things can coexist in a woman on screen, because We know that he exists women in real life. ,

Boniadi downplays Bronwyn’s inner strength to what comes from the heart of his character. The actress explained, “He is deeply driven by love – love for his son… love for Arondir, but a deep sense of purpose to free his people from the shackles of their past.”

During the two years he spent filming his role in the series, Boniadi became close with his co-stars, spending downtime with Muhafidin and his mother (they were on-set sing-offs, and even Hobbiton also went to New Zealand. Holiday). He also felt an immediate kinship with Cruz-Cordova, who plays Bronwyn’s elf love interest Arondir, career parallels behind the scenes with both actors quickly being bonded while onscreen found an obvious chemistry.

“We’re really lucky that we found each other. I think when you act opposite a good actor you take something out of each other, you know, you can make each other better. Me Know that he did it for me, and hopefully I did it for him,” Boniadi said.

“And we have a deep connection because we’ve both worked in the industry for so long,” she continued. “And with that comes a certain amount of humility at work because as many times as we’ve both been told, ‘This is going to happen to you; it’s going to be the one’ – whether it’s a prize, or a compliment – and you He would have to shut all that down and just say, ‘It’s about work, and at this point in time, it can’t be about anything else,'” Bonidi explained. “And so the journey to get to this point and we are both people of color, we both know what it means to be a downtrodden and win these roles. And also, what does this kind of quirky romance even mean in the sense of elf/human, you know? and then, that We To play these roles and its deep connection to meaning and its denial resonates with us on many levels. But other than that, what does it mean as far as bridge building and our off screen activism that we both do, and our family values, and it goes on. But I think it all lends itself to being able to tie into roles. ,
