News & Documentary Emmys 2022 Winners List – Deadline

ABC and Vice headlined the news portion of the 43rd Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards, presented tonight at the Palladium Times Square in Manhattan. Both scored eight statuettes, followed by CNN and the New York Times with five each, and CBS and NBC with three each. The full list of winners can be found here.

The documentary awards will be presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Thursday.

ABC entered this year’s News/Doc Emmy race with 39 leading nominations, followed by CNN (37), PBS (28), Vice (28), CBS (26) and HBO (23).

“Tonight’s Emmy winners exemplify broadcast journalism at its best, reporting that they prioritize fact over fiction, prioritize accountability over advocacy, and work to spread the truth on behalf of the communities we all serve,” said NATAS Chairman Terry O’Reilly. “America has never needed its journalists more than it does today. We congratulate today’s honorees and thank them for the indispensable service they render to our nation.”

Judy Woodruff, the longtime presenter and editor-in-chief of PBS NewsHour, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. She announced plans in May to step down from her anchor post and turn to reporting and special projects.

Elsewhere, the 2022 International Emmy for News was presented tonight ITV News: Storming the Capitol (ITV News, UK). ITV News was the only TV news team in the world to be embedded in the mob that stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 and covered the riot first hand.

The International Emmy for Current Affairs was awarded to Germany Slahi and his torturers (In search of monsters).

“The International Emmy gives us the opportunity to recognize quality television from around the world, even though in this case the programs produced in the UK and Germany are about events in the United States,” said Bruce Paisner, President and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
