In the era of TV Tzarina Ekta Kapoor, many of the shows, especially on Star Plus, remained iconic. In fact, due to fan demand, the channel recently revived some of its most popular shows including Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii starring Sakshi Tanwar as the sanskaari daughter-in-law with Kiran Karmarkar as her husband along with Shweta Kawatra as the vamp daughter-in-law and Ali Asgar as her other half. Speaking about the return of the show, Nivedita Basu, who was one of the creative directors for most of these Balaji Telefilms shows, shared her view that the show is a modern version of Ramayan.
Nivedita Basu Compares Star Plus Show Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii To Ramayan; says “It’s the Baghban of Indian Television”
About the Star Plus show and its popularity, Nivedita Basu said, “Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii is a modern take on Ramayan. It is still relevant even today. Every Indian household has seen it and the rising TRPs when it aired on the tube was proof of that. Everyone drew parallels between the characters they resonated with on the show. It is the Baghban (the 2003 Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini starrer) of Indian television. It teaches you the importance of family values, preserving goodness around evil, and how evil eventually becomes good. Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii is something forever.”
Several popular shows have returned with a new season. When asked if KGGK should be remade, she replied: “The USP of the show is the cast — Sakshi Tanwar, Kiran Karmarkar, Rinku Dhawan and Shweta Kawaatra. I don’t know how good the idea of re-creating it is, as audiences would still be looking for the original cast they were so strongly associated with. For now, a rerun would do the job, because audiences love it.”
“The great thing about being with Balaji Telefilms for 15 years is that I was involved in every show, including Kyunki, Kahaani, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Koshish, Ghar Ek Mandir, Kkusum, Kkavyanjali and Kahaani Hamaaray Mahaabhaarat Ki. I was part of the creative team that worked on feature films, storytelling and the background music for each show. I am proud that Ekta has made me such a big part of her production house and I can proudly say that I have witnessed the rise of Balaji and how Ekta has worked hard to make it such an empire,” concludes Nivedita.
