‘Nope’, ‘Elvis’, ‘Avatar’ and ‘The Woman King’ among the best films of the year at the AFI Awards

In a week packed with awards announcements, AFI has revealed its Top 10 for both film and television, and while there were plenty of titles we expected (“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fabelmans,” “Hacks,” “Better Call,” Saul”), there were plenty of pleasant surprises on the charts, especially for TV (“Nope,” “Mo,” “Pachinko,” “Somebody Somewhere,” “Reservation Dogs”). Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” also will receive a special award from AFI this year.

Movie titles that are supposed to be on the list but didn’t screen are “Babylon,” “The Whale,” “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Overlooked TV shows included critical favorites “Bad Sisters,” “Black Bird,” and “Ramy,” not to mention hits like “House of the Dragon,” “The Watcher,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. and the “Dahmer” miniseries.
