Oppenheimer trailer teases Christopher Nolan’s epic about the father of the atomic bomb

The latest trailer for Oppenheimer further teases Christopher Nolan’s epic biographical outing about the struggles faced by theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the “father of the atomic bomb.” Released courtesy of Universal Pictures, Oppenheimer it’s unlikely to be a typical biography with Nolan at the helm, with the filmmaker calling the real-life figure “the most important person who ever lived.” Watch the new trailer for Oppenheimer below.


Written and directed by Christopher Nolan and based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin, Oppenheimer will immerse the audience in the blood-curdling paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it. The director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project, Oppenheimer’s contributions led to the creation of the atomic bomb, an invention that left him conflicted and even terrified by the force he himself helped unleash, uttering the immortal words: ” Now I have become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

Led by Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the project has assembled one of the most star-studded casts in film history and includes Emily Blunt as biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, Oscar winner Matt Damon as General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey, Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, one of the founders of the US Atomic Energy Commission.

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan recently communicated the importance of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s story. “Like it or not, J. Robert Oppenheimer is the most important person who ever lived,” he declared. “He made the world we live in – for better or for worse. And his story has to be seen to be believed, and I certainly hope audiences will come to your theaters to see it on the biggest screens possible.”

Not only will Nolan use hands-on effects to recreate the first detonation of a nuclear weapon, known as the Trinity test, but the filmmaker will also Oppenheimer to put us in the room with the team as they witness the atomic bomb become a reality. “When I heard about that story, I wanted to be in that room with them and see what that must have been like,” explains Nolan. “I wanted to bring the audience there.
