Oscars 2023 White Dress: Tems’ Response to Controversy Is Perfect

Tems has a message (and an emoji) for the haters of her spectacular and now infamous Oscars dress.

The co-writer of Rihanna’s Oscar-nominated ballad ‘Lift Me Up’ lit up social media during Sunday’s ceremony, with viewers wondering how hard it must have been to sit behind her dress dramatically large white.

Twitter users, famous or not, flooded the platform with their divided opinionsfinally agreeing that the white Lever Couture dress “stole the show”.

Almost 24 hours later, Tems responded to the critics in a perfectly cheeky tweet:

Tems’ dress appeared several times throughout the ABC show, particularly when host Jimmy Kimmel entered the audience for special segments. Those seated next to and behind Tems, including his co-manager Tec, were regularly seen craning their necks to see around the fashion structure.

Sadly, there’s still no official word on who sat directly behind Tems, whose view was totally blocked for most of the night.

Tems was nominated for Best Original Song for “Lift Me Up,” the emotional ballad by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She wrote the music, along with Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson and Rihanna. She and Coogler also wrote the lyrics.
