Perry Mason Producers, Stars Talk Season 2 and Beyond

“Perry Mason” is back. And we talked to the cast and producers about where the show is headed this season — and beyond (you can watch the interview above).

After a new iteration of the classic series (like the original show, based on the stories by Earle Stanley Gardner) debuted as a limited series on HBO in 2020, the cable network decided to bring it back, this time (presumably ) ongoing show. Matthew Rhys, Juliette Rylance, Shea Whigham and Chris Chalk are all back, as is the corruption, vice, murder, political intrigue and far-reaching conspiratorial nature of the episode’s core.

This time Mason is defending a pair of young Mexican men accused of murdering a wealthy socialite and the son of a powerful Los Angeles businessman. Of course, when Mason (and his team) start digging, they uncover something far more sinister.

“The important thing for us was that it was all about character. It was all about seeing where we ended up with these three characters and where we want to see them in Season 2. are like superfriends and it all seems like, ok we’re all in a good place, But we loved that party ends and reality sets in,” said Michael Begler, one of two new executive producers/showrunners for this season (along with his partner Jack Amiel). “Starting from there and diving into research of what was going on in Los Angeles in 1933, that’s where we took off.”

As far as the stars of the show are concerned, they would love to continue enjoying the world that has already been established for two seasons.

“It gets real, especially in this setting. The world that’s been built for this show is so rich, and so I think this year, there’s going to be a lot of exploration of these characters in a more detailed way.” Because we’ve already created the world. Now we can actually live in it,” Rylance said. “so you Think, well let’s live in it,
