Spoiler Alert: This article contains IMPORTANT SPOILERS for Halloween endsMichael Myers and Laurie Strode went to battle one last time in the sequel to the slasher Halloween endsbut there were many Halloween fans unimpressed with the film. Directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jamie Lee Curtis in what will likely be her last film as Laurie, Halloween ends received heavy criticism from moviegoers and critics after its release. This has led to the film earning a rotten score of 39% on Rotten Tomatoes, and you don’t have to look too far on social media to see the complaints of many franchise fans.
One of the biggest complaints fans seem to have with Halloween ends is that it puts Michael Myers in the back seat. Some viewers had expected the masked killer to have a bigger presence in the sequel, after he was teased as an unstoppable force that was just getting started at the end of the film. Halloween kills. Instead, the new character Corey Cunningham takes center stage, with most of the film exploring his romance with Laurie’s granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak). Traumatized by his own tragedy on Halloween night, Corey essentially becomes the “new Michael” in the film, going so far as to steal the ogre’s mask to carry out the majority of the murders in the film himself.
Now, per iHorrorsome fans cry dirty and demand that Halloween ends be made from scratch. A new petition has been launched, which you can find at change.org, calling for a new version of the film with more Michael Myers. This is reminiscent of when the controversial final season of Game of Thrones has a popular petition for HBO to re-record the show’s ending. The Halloween ends the description of the petition reads:
“Halloween ends was NOT a movie the fans wanted! This was an Origins story! The Corey Story! We deserve a movie worthy of Michael Myers & the Halloween franchise! We love this franchise very much and this version of a Halloween movie left us sad, angry, disappointed and furious. Please give us a movie that shows us what Halloween is really about. Our Apex Predator… the king of the Slasher movies Michael Myers! This movie gave us a weak pathetic Michael who needed his mask to survive! These are not OUR MICHAEL MYERS! Our killer is strong, ruthless and unstoppable! Please correct this mistake! We beg you!!!”
Will the end of Halloween be Michael Myers’ last?
Some fans may not be happy with how it turned out, but Halloween ends appears to be the last we’ll see of the original Laurie Strode. There are currently no plans to develop sequels on: Halloween ends and director David Gordon Green is confident that this film will be our final goodbye to JLC’s version of the character.
“After the first, we decided to do two more,” Green told Weekly entertainment. “Her character has traveled all my life, and at some point I just became the shepherd, so it was nice to inherit that character, take her on the journey I wanted to take her, and then say goodbye to her.” I’m confident we’ll say goodbye to Jamie playing Laurie in the universe At some point maybe someone will bring a new Laurie into something there will be a twist and the mythology will continue But I really got it feeling like this is the last time we’re going to see her nervous smile and those fun enlightening attributes of Laurie Strode.”
