Plot, cast and everything else we know

Marvel Zombies is one of the MCU’s most anticipated spin-off series, despite its release date being so far off. The zombie apocalypse is coming to the MCU, as the series will see some of our favorite Marvel heroes go head to head in a battle of zombies against survivors. But that’s not all we get. Marvel recently announced more comic book heroes that we’ve only seen in bits and pieces in the movies. In addition to the great characters, the show will have a capable cast and crew, talented, experienced writers and a great storyline.

Marvel Zombies will be based on the infamous What if…? episode where all the mightiest heroes of the earth turn to zombies. Fans loved it so much they hoped to see more of it in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. After that, they made enough noise, and Marvel Studios quickly listened to the fans and is now making the miniseries. Now that production has just started on the project, fans are eating up all the information we can get about it. From San Diego Comic-Con to leaked rumors on the internet, we’re ready to get all the news you need at Marvel Zombies.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Marvel Zombies: The Plot

The Marvel Zombies miniseries will work from the concept of the What if…? episode where the earth is experiencing a zombie apocalypse, and it’s not just ordinary people who are infected. The zombie virus has a quantum aspect and turns heroes into zombies with super powers. Whether or not the series will be based on the plot of the What if…? episode or whether there is a deeper look at the Marvel Zombies comic books by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips. The What if…? episode ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, with zombie Thanos waiting for the survivors as they retreated to Wakanda to find a cure, and that would certainly be a good starting point.

One exciting thing for fans is that Marvel announced that the show would be rated TV-MA, the equivalent of an R-rated movie. This comes after Disney+ is steadily adding more R-rated content to its lists, such as Deadpool 1 & 2 and other Marvel movies. So these upcoming MCU zombie wars can get gory at times and maybe even scary.

One thing is for sure, the story will expand beyond just the zombies and survivors we saw in the What if…? series. We’ll probably see all the heroes from back in the day, plus some minor characters we’ve only seen on the big screen for a moment. We will see Marvel characters such as Red Guardian, Death Dealer, the Abomination, Okoye, Katy Chen and even Jimmy Woo. It’s going to be a great time to see some of these cool characters, who are usually sidelined, take on bigger roles in a version of the Marvel universe that might not just be about the big names. It is also rumored that Ikaris is dating Eternals will be in the series as half a zombie.

We know that the Disney series will be short, with just four episodes. But we don’t know how long those episodes will last.

Marvel Zombies: The Cast and Crew

Marvel has traditionally done its best to match its actors with their roles, even in voice acting. Marvel’s What if…? series, nine times out of ten, the movie actors had their animated selves, so it’s probably what we can expect for Marvel Zombies.

Assuming this is the case, we’ll see Captain America voiced by Chris Evans (or Josh Keaton as he appears in What if…?), Hawkeye voiced by Jeremy Renner, Scarlet Witch voiced by Elizabeth Olson, Captain Marvel by Brie Larson, Ghost by Hannah John-Kamen, The Abomination by Tim Roth, Ikaris by Richard Madden, Ant-Man by Paul Rudd, Spider-Man by Tom Holland or Hudson Thames (What if…?), Shang Chi by Simu Li, Katy Chen by Awkwafina, Death Dealer by Ande Le, Kate Bishop by Hailee Steinfeld, Jimmy Woo by Randall Park, Yelena Belova by Florence Pugh, Red Guardian by David Harbour, Kamala Khan by Iman Vellani and Okoye by Danai Gurira.

Zeb Wells has been tapped to write the series. He is known for writing and is currently working on Spider Man comicsbut he has worked for the MCU before, having written an episode of She-Hulk. Now he’s coming to bring us Marvel Zombies. Although he’s the zombie episode of What if…? he said he was incredibly inspired by the series and excited to write a spin-off series. He’s a veteran Marvel writer working on a huge comic book cross-title event from Peter Parker’s perspective, so he’s definitely capable of writing this screenplay.

Publication date

Marvel Zombies doesn’t have an official release date yet, though it will be sometime in 2024.
