Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Southern superstars Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, Chiranjeevi and several other celebrities congratulated legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja on being nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Rajya Sabha.

PM Narendra Modi wished Ilaiyaraaja for Rajya Sabha nomination by tweeting: “The creative genius of Ilaiyaraaja Ji has captivated people from generation to generation. His works beautifully reflect many emotions. What is equally inspiring is his life journey – he grew up from a humble background and has accomplished so much. Glad he’s been nominated for the Rajya Sabha.”

Superstar Rajinikanth also took to Twitter to congratulate the music legend writing, “My heartfelt congratulations to my dear friend Ilaiyaraaja who has been nominated for the Rajya Sabha.” He and Ilaiyaraaja are reuniting after 28 years for R. Balki’s next film starring Rajinikanth.

Kamal Haasan also congratulated the maestro who wrote in Tamil: “If it is to honor the incomparable and greatest Ilaiyaraaja for his art, he can be unanimously offered the position of President. Even then, let’s congratulate him on his nomination to the Rajya Sabha.”

Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi also warmly congratulated Ilaiyaraaja by tweeting: “Congratulations to Shri Ilaiyaraaja, the unparalleled music genius. Your presence in the Rajya Sabha would certainly add a touch of genius to the Senate. A matter of personal pleasure for me, as I was lucky enough to have you compose music for several of my films.”

Chiranjeevi went on to thank the Prime Minister for nominating Ilaiyaraaja. “Grateful thanks to the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for bestowing the well-deserved honor of presidential nomination as Rajya Sabha members to most deserving faithful players of the film industry – Shri KV, Vijayendra Prasad garu and Shri Ilaiyaraaja garu.”

The legendary composer, who is currently in Seattle, USA, took to Twitter to thank the party for the honor and everyone who congratulated him on the nomination. Ilaiyaraaja has scored music for more than 1,400 movies and composed more than 7,000 songs to date. Winner of five national awards, Ilaiyaraaja was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010 and the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian award in 2018.
