The current main topic of discussion in Bollywood is not the debate between South and Bollywood but it is about the performance of great Hindi movies. August releases Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha, were touted as one of the biggest clashes at the box office, but the films appear to have left audiences unimpressed. On the other hand, pushpa and RRR not only roared at the box office, but they also get a great response in terms of OTT. Speaking of this topic, apahara filmmaker Prakash Jha expressed his opinion that Bollywood lacks novelty and relies heavily on remakes.
Prakash Jha Reveals His Opinion on Aamir Khan Actor Laal Singh Chaddha; says, “They need to understand that they’re making baking haze”
In an interview with Cinestaan Prakash Jha called it a wake-up call for the industry. “They need to understand that they are making a mess. A movie cannot be made just by money, companies and a high fee to the actors. You have to write a good story that understands and entertains you,” he said. He also talked about how they should renew their strategy and not just rely on remakes. “They have to make stories that are rooted. People from the Hindi industry speak Hindi, but what do they make? They just make remakes. If you don’t have a story to tell, stop making movies. They should work hard and think in an original way, as people have become lethargic,” he said.
While he also appreciated Aamir Khan’s hard work, in the same breath he also claimed that the content should have been strong enough to be a crowd pleaser. “It’s just that people use social media as a means of communication. if dangal, Lagaan refueled (at the checkout), then we could have understood that it had happened because of the boycott. But you made a film that was not well received. I’ve yet to find someone who said ‘wow, what a movie it was’. I agree you worked hard and tried your best, but if there’s no such factor in your content, you can’t say it didn’t do well because of the boycott,” he concluded.
For the uninitiated, Laal Singh Chaddha was the remake of the Oscar-winning Tom Hanks film Forrest Gump, and starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aamir Khan in lead roles. The movie released along with Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar starrer Raksha Bandhanboth of which were released on August 11.
