Prem Geet 3the first Indo-Nepalese film, was released in theaters yesterday, September 23. Surprisingly, the response to this film was very encouraging and surprised the trade and industry.
Several shows on Friday sold out, helped by the National Cinema Day offer, with multiplexes selling tickets for Rs. 75. However, the said offer is not available on Saturdays and Sundays. However, the plans for these two days are filling up quickly. Moreover, even in a city like Chennai where Rs. 75 offer was not made available, the shows were full.
Prem Geet 3 has been released in 500 screens in India, 200 screens in Nepal and 500 screens in Overseas. on day 1, Prem Geet 3 collected Rs. 1.12 crores at the box office in India. In its home market in Nepal, it has collected Rs. 2.05 crores in the Overseas Territories; it netted Rs. 1.67 crores. Basically, the film has collected Rs. 4.84 crores at the worldwide box office. For a movie made for just Rs. 11 crores (Rs. 6 crores is the production cost and Rs. 5 crores is P&A cost), it’s fantastic news. As result, Prem Geet 3 is expected to recoup its costs by Sunday.
Indian filmmaker Subhash Kale, the producer of Prem Geet 3excitedly said: “It was an experiment to release this film in cinemas in India. The positive response from the audience made us all happy. We were surprised to see that in a center like Chennai the Nepali version of the film was house full yesterday and today. Word of mouth is very encouraging across the country and we’re getting reports and video clips from viewers cheering and clapping during the film.”
Prem Geet 3 stars Pradeep Khadka and Kristina Gurung in lead roles along with Shiva Shrestha, Maotse Gurung, Sunil Thapa and Manish Raut. Directed by Santosh Sen and the late Chhetan Gurung. Chhetan Gurung also co-wrote the film with Mandeep Gautam. Besides Subhash Kale, Santosh Sen, Prashant Kumar Gupta and Sushama Shiromanee are the producers of Prem Geet 3.
